| O Consulado-Geral em Miami reitera seu apoio institucional à Fundação Icla da Silva e ao recrutamento de doares de medula óssea promovido pela entidade.Nesse contexto, aquela Fundação está realizando, entre os dias 1 e 3 de maio de 2013, na sede do Consulado-Geral, campanha de divulgação de seu trabalho, bem como inscrição de novos doadores.
A Fundação Icla da Silva é um importante centro de recrutamento de doadores de medula óssea nos Estados Unidos e atua especialmente junto a comunidades de minoria étnica. A instituição foi criada em 1992, em memória à adolescente brasileira Icla da Silva, natural de Maceió, Alagoas. A nacional falecera aos 13 anos, na cidade de Nova York, após enfrentar quadro de leucemia, sem ter jamais encontrado doador de medula compatível. | 2. Candidato brasileiro avança à próxima etapa de seleção na OMC |
| O candidato do Brasil à Direção-Geral da Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC), Embaixador Roberto Azevêdo, disputará a segunda rodada de consultas do processo de seleção para o cargo. Azevêdo foi um dos cinco candidatos preferidos pelos Países Membros da OMC na primeira rodada, ocorrida entre os dias 2 e 9 de abril.
O resultado foi anunciado nesta sexta-feira, 12 de abril, na sede da OMC, em Genebra. A “troika” responsável pela condução do processo, formada pelos Presidentes do Conselho-Geral (Paquistão), do Órgão de Solução de Controvérsias (Canadá) e do Órgão de Revisão de Políticas Comerciais da OMC (Suécia), realizou o anúncio ao Conselho-Geral da Organização, que reúne os 159 Países Membros.
Os outros candidatos selecionados para a próxima etapa são o sul-coreano Taeho Bark, a indonésia Mari Pangestu, o neozelandês Tim Groser e o mexicano Herminio Blanco.
A seleção do Diretor-Geral é realizada em três etapas. A segunda rodada de consultas deverá começar na próxima semana, quando será solicitada aos Países Membros da OMC a indicação de dois nomes, entre os cinco candidatos ainda na disputa, para a terceira e última rodada. O processo deverá ser concluído em maio, e o vencedor assumirá a Direção-Geral da Organização em setembro.

| 3. Homenagem à Música Brasileira – documentário ‘Com a Benção de São Jobim’* |

| Estreia do vídeo-documentário ‘Com a Benção de São Jobim’ será no dia 29 de abril
Com depoimentos especiais de Antonio Adolfo, Carlos Borges, Rose Max, Ramatis Moraes e Gene de Souza, entre outros, será lançado, no próximo dia 29 de abril, o vídeo-documentário ‘Com a Benção de São Jobim’, uma realização do Brasil Mais com o patrocínio do Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Miami. O filme, de 21 minutos de duração, retrata os desafios enfrentados por músicos brasileiros nos Estados Unidos, ao mesmo tempo em que examina o legado deixado por ícones que fizeram a nossa cultura ser reconhecida no exterior.
O trabalho produzido por Neusa Martinez (direção e edição) e Carlos Wesley (roteiro e apresentação), com o apoio dos cinegrafistas Fernando Vasconcellos e Marcelo Carlos, terá sua estreia no Cinema Paradiso, em Fort Lauderdale, na mesma sessão do documentário ‘Orgulho de Ser Brasileiro’, de Adalberto Piotto, como parte do Seminário Focus Brasil. Na ocasião, os músicos que participaram das filmagens estarão presentes no evento.
“Nosso objetivo foi mostrar que, apesar da força da Música Brasileira no exterior, os músicos brasileiros só garantem espaço neste disputado mercado com muita perseverança, criatividade, profissionalismo e, é claro, talento”, conta o jornalista Carlos Wesley, que entrevistou artistas de diferentes vertentes e gêneros musicais, como Bossa Nova, Chorinho e Samba, por exemplo.
A cooperação entre o Brasil Mais e o Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Miami é uma das vertentes da política de promoção no exterior da Cultura Brasileira. Além do vídeo-documentário sobre os músicos, a parceria rendeu ainda dois outros trabalhos: ‘Capoeira, Patrimônio Cultural Brasileiro’ e ‘O Ensino do Português Ganha Força’.

2013 Miami Rum Festival expands
The fifth annual Miami Rum Renaissance Festival — the largest gathering of rum experts, professionals and enthusiasts in the world — will span Monday, April 15 to Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Doubletree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center.
Last year, more than 8,000 rum enthusiasts attended the festival with 20,000 square feet of exhibit space. The new space spans 40,000 square feet, twice the size of last year’s event. Festival organizers are preparing for 15,000 attendees.
In addition to a week-long series of VIP parties, tasting sessions and celebrity seminars, the rum festival brings together members of the esteemed International Rum Expert Panel (RumXPs) for their annual tasting competition.
Two full days of Grand Tasting events for the public will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21. More than 240 spirits from the Caribbean and beyond will be available for sampling, along with a selection of island-style cuisine. Continue reading

His sons Cristiano and Alex Piquet are connected to many Community affairs in Miami, South Florida, and for this reason I was invited to participate in this event on Valentine’s Day, but I couldn’t make it and I now that got the pictures, my heart breaks , because I could not be a part of something so grand, reason why I decided to write about it.
You will understand as you look at every single picture, the expression, the look in the eye, the happiness and the uncertainty . Kids are strong, resilient, they have a passion, and a hope that is unbreakable, but sometimes life is not so kind, and we have to try for at least one day,to make it better, to make it work, so they can go on with that day in their memory, reminding them, they had a memorable day, with happiness and fun and security, among people who did not harm them.
Kids should be promised a great life from day one, and I am glad people who can, stopped everything they had to do to give their children at Kids in Distress, a great day, regardless.

O Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (INEP) tenciona aplicar o Exame Nacional para Certificação de Competências de Jovens e Adultos (ENCCEJA) na cidade de Boston, entre março e maio de 2013.
O Exame é uma avaliação voluntária e gratuita oferecida às pessoas que não tiveram a oportunidade de concluir os estudos em idade apropriada para aferir competências, habilidades e saberes adquiridos tanto no processo escolar quanto no extra-escolar. Candidatos aprovados no exame recebem certificado de ensino fundamental ou de ensino médio. Trata-se da primeira edição do ENCCEJA nos Estados Unidos.
A fim de habilitar o INEP a preparar-se dos pontos de vista logístico e orçamentário para aplicação da prova, encontra-se publicada, na página eletrônica <http://bostonsupletivo2013.eventbrite.com>, seção pela qual o interessado poderá indicar o desejo de prestar o exame. Não se trata, neste primeiro momento, de inscrição no ENCCEJA, mas de registro para contribuir com o levantamento do número de interessados.

MIAMI, FL August 15, 2012 - The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, in partnership with Sony Pictures and Myspace, is proud to announce Miami native Bianca Sirgany-Castro as the national winner of the “Sparkle Singing Challenge,” a singing contest held on behalf of the soon-to-be-released film Sparkle starring Jordin Sparks and the late Whitney Houston. In addition, the Arsht Center is also excited to announce local gospel group S.I.G.N. (Singing In God’s Name) as the winner of its inaugural “New Gospel Talent Search,” a local singing contest set to discover Miami’s next top gospel artists. Both winners will perform as the FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS opening acts on September 16, 2012, headlined by Grammy-nominated contemporary gospel superstar J MOSS.
The Arsht Center’s “New Gospel Talent Search” is supported by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami gospel radio station WMBM 1490 AM, and Beverly and Bill Parker.
During last month’s “Sparkle Singing Challenge,” music industry judges voted 18-year-old Bianca Sirgany-Castro as the local winner of the national singing competition. She received numerous prizes including the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people on the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall stage and a chance to compete nationally for the contest’s grand prize. On August 7, Sirgany-Castro won the overall challenge by attaining the most amount of public votes collected through a Myspace Sparkle homepage. As winner of the grand prize, she travelled to New York City to record a song with the Punch Monkeys, Jordin Sparks’ production and writing team. On August 16, Sirgany-Castro will appear on BET’s highly-rated “106 & Park” show to reveal her new song during an exclusive interview.
As a proud Miamian, she is thrilled to perform at Arsht Center this upcoming fall. “It’s definitely going to be the biggest and most exciting performance for me. I used to go to the Arsht with my school for field trips and now I will actually be on the stage. This is going to be an amazing experience!” says Sirgany-Castro.
Sirgany-Castro attended Miami Arts Charter School where she studied jazz vocal and choral music and will be attending Miami Dade College this fall. She was trained by Miami-based Grammy Award-winning R&B artist, Betty Wright, and performed locally at her school’s Relay For Life event, Tobacco Road and the national anthem at various Miami Marlins baseball games. She was part of a non-profit touring group, Voices United, and once performed on NBC 6’s live morning program. A great deal of her musical flair comes from the folk, gospel, and jazz music stylings of Aretha Franklin. Yet, Sirgany-Castro is also inspired by the vocals of Amy Winehouse, Adele, Coldplay and Yolanda Adams who was featured in the Arsht Center’s FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS 2011-2012 concert series.
S.I.G.N. was founded in 2001 by locals Jespert Powell and Evron Stewart and since then has made its mark in the world of gospel, jazz and R&B. Powell, who is originally from Jamaica, says the group uses Jamaican-inspired rhythms in their music, in addition to a combination of other musical genres ranging from a cappella numbers to R&B to reggae. They also gain inspiration from various harmonic groups such as Real Group, Straight Company and Naturally Seven.
S.I.G.N. group members are looking forward to their upcoming Arsht Center debut and hope to please audience members with their unique sound as they open for J MOSS at FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS this fall. “When we sing we make sure we reach a wide range, so that there is something for everyone, the young and the old. We try to bridge the generation gap,” explains Powell.
Admission to FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS is FREE. However, First Access Passes for the FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS performance on September 16, 2012, featuring J MOSS, Miami Mass Choir and the winners of the “Sparkle Singing Challenge” and “New Gospel Talent Search” have been reserved.
STAND-BY LINE: Patrons who do not have a First Access Pass may join the Stand-by Line beginning at 3 p.m. outside the theater. Seating, if available, will be opened at 3:45 p.m. to patrons in the stand-by line.

Born and raised in Detroit, J MOSS hails from gospel music royalty as the nephew of gospel’s legendary Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, the cousin of her daughters – the inimitable Clark Sisters – and the son of Bill Moss, Sr., founder of the popular ‘70s gospel act Bill Moss & the Celestials. In his youth, MOSS spent time most of his time touring as a part-time singer with the Celestials, and later with the Clark Sisters, as well as with his brother, Bill Jr., in a singing duo called The Moss Brothers. More recently, he has toured the country opening for the illustrious CeCe Winans on the McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour, and served as a judge on the Gospel Music Channel’s Gospel Dream program. Combining traditional spiritual messages with modern arrangements and hip hop beats, J MOSS has performed groundbreaking work with Trin-i-Tee 5:7, Hezekiah Walker, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child) and helped bring an accessible style of gospel music to a new generation of general urban audiences. As a partner in urban contemporary’s powerhouse production company — PAJAM, J MOSS has been the co-writer and author behind some of the biggest artists in both gospel and secular music. PAJAM produced gospel music’s most prolific hit-makers and J MOSS subsequently attained increasing recognition within the industry. His recording J MOSS Project was released in 2004, and he received a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Gospel Album in 2006. His third album release, Just James, spawned two gospel hits, including Restored/I Gave It Up and Rebuild and its 2010 remix single.
The Adrienne Arsht Center’s extraordinarily popular FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS series has been supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation since the 2008-2009 season. Knight Foundation recently awarded the Center a three-year grant to continue the series into the 2013-2014 season. A generous donation from Beverly and Bill Parker and a grant from the Funding Arts Network also supported the 2011-2012 season.
