Reduce, Reuse, Recycle And … Refill — SeaWorld Designs New Conservation-Minded Cup To Interact With Coca-Cola Freestyle

SEAWORLD PARKS & ENTERTAINMENT LOGO

SEAWORLD PARKS & ENTERTAINMENT CUP THAT CARESCustom Technology Engages Guests on a Personal Level

This penguin-shaped cup may look cute and cuddly, but it has a noble purpose: encourage guests to help the planet, one refill at a time.

In conjunction with SeaWorld(®) Orlando’s epic new attraction and ride Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin(TM) opening Memorial Day weekend, SeaWorld has created the Cup That Cares(TM)– a new reusable cup program with a twist of technology. The innovative, interactive cup was designed specifically to connect with Coca-Cola Freestyle(®) beverage dispensers in the new realm.

The new Cup That Cares engages guests in a personalized manner to reuse materials and reduce their carbon footprint. An RFID chip embedded in each Cup That Cares interacts with software at Coca-Cola Freestyle(®) dispensers to calculate and tell guests how they are being more environmentally responsible by choosing to reuse.

Plus, SeaWorld will donate $1 from each Cup That Cares purchase to the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens(®) Conservation Fund, a not-for-profit foundation that helps protect wildlife around the world.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Technology embedded in the Cup That Cares calculates the amount of CO2 each guest saves from entering the atmosphere when they choose to reuse the cup for refills at Coca-Cola Freestyle machines in Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. With each refill at the designated machines, exclusive software developed by Coca-Cola and SeaWorld serves up an onscreen message that is customized to that guest’s Cup That Cares history.  The message thanks the guest for choosing to reuse, tracks how many refills the Cup That Cares has been used for, and calculates the running total of CO2 the guest has saved from entering the atmosphere.

Each refill with a reusable cup prevents the emission of approximately 27 grams of CO2.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE:

There are two options, both available exclusively in the new Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin attraction at SeaWorld Orlando:

Cup That Cares(TM) souvenir reusable cup – available at the two beverage stations inside the attraction for $9.99 – is adorned with photos of Puck(TM) and his penguin family. Puck is  the hero penguin character featured throughout the new realm.

Create A Cup That Cares(TM) – Guests may build their own personalized penguin-shaped character cup by choosing from more than 40 accessories such as eyes, hair, glasses, hats, bow tie, necklaces and even miniature Shamu® ice cream bars and SeaWorld shopping bags. The Create A Cup That Cares will be sold in the Antarctica gift shop, and includes a free first fill at the nearby Antarctica beverage stations. Create A Cup That Cares experience starts at $15.95 with the option to add accessory items.
“Just as penguins do within their colonies, humans also can band together to make a big difference through small actions,” said Dan Brown, Chief Operating Officerof SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Aquatica Parks. “We see great potential with this new program because it encourages guests to be more aware of their actions – and reduce their carbon footprint — in an easy, fun and innovative way. Each step may be small, but it all adds up when we work together.”

Refills throughout the park for both Cup That Cares options are $.99 each.

PLUS — NEW custom Coca-Cola flavor served up only at Antarctica

The Cup That Cares concept was developed in partnership with the park’s beverage partner Coca-Cola, whose Coca-Cola Freestyle dispensers offer guests more than 100 different beverage brands.  Also only in Antarctica, Coca-Cola Freestyle will offer an all-new, vanilla-infused choice — South Pole Chill(TM).

Former Sudan Child Soldier Emmanuel Jal to Speak Out on Global Arms Trade Treaty with Amnesty International Media Tour in New York and Washington, D.C.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL LOGOOnMarch 5-7 – just weeks before crucial talks begin at the United Nations to negotiate an international arms trade treatyAmnesty International will host a media tour in New York and Washington, D.C. with hip hop artist and humanitarian  Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier from South Sudan, who will speak out in support of the treaty.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL EMMANUEL JALJal will be available for one-on-one interviews with journalists in both cities and will participate with Amnesty International human rights advocates and others in an open media breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7 (location TBA).

Jal knows firsthand the horrors of being a child on the frontlines. At the age of seven, he was uprooted from his village and sent to fight with the rebel army in Sudan’s brutal civil war. For nearly five years, Jal carried and slept next to an AK-47 that was taller than him. Eventually, Jal and 300 other “lost boys” managed to escape, enduring a 3-month trek on foot without any supplies to reach safety. He was one of only a handful of survivors. The award-winning documentary ‘War Child’ chronicles Jal’s life and his emergence as a musician and humanitarian sharing a message of peace for his war-torn land and beloved Africa.

Why The World Needs an Arms Trade Treaty

Every minute, at least one person dies as a result of armed violence and conflict while the global arms trade remains unregulated. There is currently no universal piece of legislation to regulate and monitor the international trade of arms. In fact, bananas are under more international trade rules than weapons. A comprehensive international Arms Trade Treaty sets out to achieve that.

Amnesty International is rallying supporters worldwide to urge President Barack Obama to lead a life-saving effort to adopt the treaty when a second round of talks opens with member states at the United Nations on March 18 and continue through March 28.

Supported by two-thirds of the world’s countries, the arms trade treaty would prevent arms from being sold or traded to dictators, warlords, and other human rights abusers who murder and torture civilians, recruit child soldiers, and commit mass rapes in conflict zones.

People across the world have been working to secure an international arms treaty for over 20 years. With the goal close at hand, Amnesty International USA is fighting a campaign against the gun lobby, including the National Rifle Association, which is riling up its supporters with false claims that the treaty will threaten U.S. Second Amendment rights when in fact, the treaty will have no bearing on domestic gun laws.

The treaty would establish common global standards for how countries import, export, and transfer conventional arms and small weapons. Most importantly, it would prohibit arms transfers where there is substantial evidence that such weapons would lead to serious human rights violations.

2012 World Music Festival Announces Largest Synchronized Event In History To Celebrate The End Of The Mayan Calendar

2012 World Music Festival Announces Largest Synchronized Event In History To Celebrate The End Of The Mayan Calendar

Two billion expected participants; live streaming from sacred Mayan pyramids, performances by Skrillex and other top artists December 21 – 23 2012

With the end of the Mayan calendar nearing Friday, December 21, 2012, Danny Chasan, founder of The Light Productions and thirteen year veteran organizer with Ultra Music Festival has teamed up with the World Organization for Peace (WOFP) to produce “the largest synchronized event and fundraising give in history,” the 2012 World Music Festival. Seeking to witness the dawn of a new era, two billion world celebrators will unite to watch the clock strike zero at 11:11 pm with live feeds from simultaneous events occurring around the globe at sacred Mayan pyramid sites, commentary from visionary spiritual leaders and performances by top music acts including Skrillex and others to be released shortly.

2012 WMF Founder Danny Chasan explains, “This revolutionary global event is designed to project a positive message of peace- December 21 is not the end of the world with the doom and gloom theories of tidal waves and earthquakes, but rather the end of time as we know it, and the beginning of a new era of unity and increased compassion among humankind.”

Influenced by 1985′s monumental Live Aid relief concert, which drew 1.9 billion viewers before the advent of the internet, Chasan has assembled an impressive team to pull off this once-in-a-lifetime event utilizing new social media platforms and technologies to unite the global audience. With exclusive access to live video stream from numerous Mayan sites, viewers will be taken on a journey through time with pyramid performances by the biggest names in Rock, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop and Reggae, alongside the most advanced hologram and video-mapping technology ever deployed.

With a mission to bring peace through music to the world, this free, philanthropic global broadcast event will bring viewers to intimate pyramid sites around the globe with massive synchronized concerts, candlelit peace gatherings and powerful spiritual and sustainable messages from respected spiritual leaders including Karen Berg, Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar, Mayan High Priest Ac Tah and others. Viewers will have the opportunity to directly benefit non-profit organizations in the environmental, animal rights, disease prevention, social, alternative energies and education sectors.

Production Director for this historic made-for-television event is one of the world’s top live event producers, David Simpson, who has helped produced some of television’s largest spectacles including Super Bowl half time shows, MTV Music Awards, MTV Latin Music Awards, Woodstock 94 & 99 and the Pan American Games.

2012 WMF and The Light Productions Founder Danny Chasan has been producing non-profit affiliated concerts and festivals worldwide for 17 years, including Ultra Music Festival in downtown Miami for the past 13 years. Ultra Music Festival drew close to 200,000 attendees flying in from over 80 countries for a three day multi-stage music extravaganza this past March. Chasan has helped organize events with performances by the world’s top talent including Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Cure, The Killers, Skrillex, The Chemical Brothers, Empire of the Sun, Faithless, Duran Duran, New Order, David Guetta, Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, Deadmau5 and many more.

This historic moment will provide a unique chance to unite the world at the end of an era. For details on how to participate, more information or to enter to win a once in a lifetime VIP Mayan Pyramid Experience, visit: www.2012wmf.com

Circus Animals’ Lives In Jeopardy

Associated Press/Jorge Saenz – A tiger sits in a cage Puerto Falcon, Paraguay, on the border with Argentina, Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. Nine Bengal tigers and seven African lions from an Argentine circus have been stuck at the border in Paraguay for two months, because Argentine officials refuse to approve their paperwork for re-entry. Paraguay’s Wildlife Ministry announced Friday they will move the animals two by two to the Asuncion zoo, “so that they can live in some comfort and not in a strange area.” (AP Photo/Jorge Saenz)

The future of 16 Lions and Tigers has become unclear with an ethical battle erupting between an American Wildlife Sanctuary and a Paraguayan NGO.  The exotic big cats are part of a traveling circus based out of Argentina, and have been stranded in Paraguay for nearly five months with Argentinian authorities refusing their re-entry.The nine Bengal Tigers and seven African Lions belong to the Argentine circus that normally performs in the Paraguayan capital each August. Their owner, Oswal Wasconi, brought them back for a 2012 performance only to learn that a new law in Paraguay bans live animal acts at circuses. Continue reading
