Mayor Buddy’s Book Club

Need a fun and academic distraction for your child during the summer? Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with the Orange County Public Library System and the Walt Disney World Resort, have teamed up to give you Mayor Buddy’s Book Club.

Fifth through eighth grade students can join the book club at Orange County Schools, local Boys and Girls Clubs and After School All Stars locations. All students are welcome to participate.

The mission of Mayor Buddy’s Book Club is to encourage leisure time reading and creative expression. The initiative will improve literacy in the community by making reading fun.

Mayor Dyer reads to and with students at the kickoff event, held at the Downtown Orlando Public Library, and throughout the program. In an effort to help keep students reading, there is an interactive website hosted by the Orange County Library System in place. Students can view the reading schedule, complete surveys on the chapters read and enter to win prizes.

Mayor Buddy’s Book Club is currently on their second book and will be finished soon. However, it’s not too late to join. Mayor Buddy’s Book Club 2nd Book Celebration will be held today from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Orlando Public Library.Students will celebrate their completion of The Maze Runner by James Dashner, come to talk, meet other book club members, share experiences, have fun, win prizes and be there for the announcement of the next book club book.
