Orlando City Beautiful more than anything  is a city that is appreciative of the arts. Downtown Orlando is not only one of the spots chosen to have an Art district but also  houses several Art Galleries, there numerous sculptures throughout town and also we have a Major Downtown Orlando Arts & Entertainment Center is being constructed, right across from the City Hall.

The City Hall Building alone  a major architectural job, was Built in 1992, and  designed by Brasfield and Gorrie. Situated on five acres of land known as City Hall Commons the building is a tribute to the basic form of other American government buildings while retaining the clean look and spacious feeling of modern Southern U.S. architecture.

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is still under construction, but it’s already advanced. More than 480 pieces of art by Central Florida schoolchildren are featured on the new fence surrounding the construction site at Orange Avenue and South Street, in downtown Orlando. Mayor Buddy Dyer helped unveil the art-adorned fence during a special ceremony last February.

Students from several local schools and art programs performed at the ceremony:

  • Audubon Park Elementary School
  • Celebration High School Jazz Combo Team
  • Florida Opera Theatre Youth Programs
  • Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra
  • Jones High School Master Singers
  • Orlando Ballet School
  • Sweetwater Episcopal Academy

Students from kindergarten through 12th grade submitted their artwork, portraying what the performing arts mean to them. The construction fence is sponsored by Mears Transportation Group. The first phase of the Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open in 2014. It will feature a large, amplified auditorium for touring shows, plus a 300-seat theater for local performing arts groups. The most important legacy is the preservation of Culture, Art, and Music, in some cases even the Folklore of a certain region, reason why the City of Orlando has such a large collection of Art in the Gallery inside the City Hall. Following you will see what we found. Orlando is not only the City with the Theme Parks, it is the City with the Arts, Museums, the Entertainment, the sports, and everything else you can call Beautiful.
