Globally famous comic book author and artist Todd McFarlane has long sketched triumph, victory and the power of good over evil. Now, he’s donating his work to the David versus Goliath race for Maricopa County Sheriff. The artwork is a fundraiser for Paul Penzone, the leading challenger to embattled Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
McFarlane unveiled an original piece of art featuring Arpaio’s formidable opponent as a larger-than-life character complete with a “No Joe” button. Recent polling has Penzone within 6 points of the infamous sheriff.
The artwork will be available in a limited-edition run of prints, which will be retired after the Nov. 6 election. Todd McFarlane will sign a fraction of the prints and some donors will have an opportunity to meet Todd and his wife, Wanda Kolomyjec, in person, at a fundraiser at their Ahwatukee home on Sunday, October 14 at 6 p.m. Supporters can purchase prints of the artwork, or can sign up for a chance to win autographed versions as well as attend the McFarlane fundraiser.
“Todd and I are happy to support Paul Penzone for Sheriff,” Kolomyjec said. “We have known Paul for over ten years and he has worked professionally for our company. We feel his background in law enforcement over the past two decades positions him to understand the priorities that the sheriff’s office should focus on.”
They join hundreds of other bipartisan Penzone supporters including: Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton; Former U.S. Attorney Paul Charlton; Former CEO, Arizona Diamondbacks Rich Dozer; Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods and Former U.S. Congressman Harry Mitchell.
