*OLGA TAÑÓN, ANOTHER VOICE FOR THE IMMIGRANTS IN THE UNITED STATES
PUERTO RICAN SUPERSTAR ANNOUNCES SUPPORT TO THE IMMIGRATION REFORM MOVEMENT AND WILL ATTEND NATIONAL RALLY FOR CITIZENSHIP ON APRIL 10TH IN WASHINGTON, DC.
TAKES AN ACTIVE ROLE IN DEFENSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ASSUMES MANTLE OF LEADERSHIP FOR MILLIONS OF IMMIGRANTS AND FAMILIES IN THE US. IN NEED OF A BETTER FUTURE.
(Washington, DC.)—OLGA TAÑÓN, accepted with a “yes” the convocation made by radio station El Zol 107.9, SEIU 32BJ and CASA in Action, to accompany them on a mission to help change the future of millions of families that today are prosecuted and live in the shadows, in their capacity as “undocumented immigrants”.
The artist will be present at the massive event that will take place on April 10th, 2013 on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington DC., location where the unprecedented rally will be held and led by CASA in Action and other organizations like, SEIU 32bj, SEIU International, CASA de Maryland, National Education Association (NEA), United Auto Workers (UAW), Communications workers of America (CWA), Alliance for Citizenship, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) among hundreds of others.
The interpreter will not only participate in the rally, but she will provide a message to those present to peacefully ask members of the U.S. Congress and President Barack Obama himself, to move quickly in passing a commonsense immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants living and working in the United States.
“The time is now …because undocumented immigrants are going through their struggle to survive in the United States of America and each day will be more complicated,” said the singer. “Our President Barack Obama and Congress can change the history of immigrants, but it must be now. It’s time for this country to give these humans the respect and justice they deserve. It’s time to stop ignoring them once and for all start calling them by their names instead of ‘waiter’, ‘cook’ …They all have names, faces and rights. It’s time for union rather than separation,” noted the all-around artist.
She also added, that she identifies with the humble and hard working women and men, who have been uprooted from their family and have to live away from their children for the lack of an immigration reform that protects them and allows them to be legal in this country. In addition to her participation in the march OLGA will support the message with an ad campaign and a series of appearances in community events that will continue until every family is unified and can live in peace, “the American dream.”
“OLGA TAÑÓN has showed her commitment and love for her community,” stated Gustavo Torres President of CASA in Action. “The votes that she inspired in November has turned into the real political power that we will be expressing on April 10th and we are proud to do it together with her.”
OLGA TAÑÓN is a voice not only admired and beloved for her songs, but also by her gestures and actions in defense of human rights, especially those for women, TAÑÓN has always publicly expressed her support to battered women, to children in need and where she believes her presence can bring positive changes for humanity, as it was the case in 2009, when under heavy pressure and controversies, she said present at the concert (Paz sin Fronteras) “Peace Without Borders” held from Havana, Cuba, with artist’s Juanes, Miguel Bose and other performers. In front of more than a million people gathered in the (Plaza de la Revolucion) Plaza of Revolution and with global transmissions in television, OLGA TAÑÓN, did not trembled her voice to ask for “a change on the island” and “openness to the world and Cuba’s government” without fear of criticism or consequences, Tañon voiced this important matter for the first time in 50 years expressing her support to “Cuban exile” in a country where everything seemed impossible, her words and presence were radical and unforgettable, after this concert, there is some flashes of change, with the hope that gradually the story turns different for the good of the people and families needing a reunification.
Mrs. TAÑÓN has recorded in the course of her career a series of messages that have earned the admiration and respect of not only the public, but also of political personalities, presidents, governors and mayors worldwide. She was recently one of the key Hispanic figures that raised her voice to educate and encourage Hispanics to vote in the 2012 presidential elections to make a difference, and that was demonstrated last November, when Latinos with their votes changed the history of this country by electing President Barack Obama once again.
