On Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 6 until 9 p.m., jazz sensations Lao Tizer and Chieli Minucci will be performing live during the FREE Latin Jazz & Art Festival at Lake Concord Park located behind Casselberry City Hall at 95 Triplet Lake Drive. Sponsored by the City of Casselberry, EL Sentinel, and 102.5 WLOQ Orlando’s Smooth Jazz, this event will entice all jazz lovers to come and enjoy a spectacular evening featuring Tizer’s first studio album Downbeat, filled with an explosive mix of Afro Cuban, world rhythms, and jazz, classical and jam band influences.
Everyone is invited to bring a blanket, chairs and all of their friends to the lakefront amphitheater to enjoy an exciting evening that kicks off at 4 p.m. with flamenco guitarists, Latin dancers, art exhibits, specialty vendors, great food and drinks, kid’s activities and more! Concert begins at 6 p.m.
Lao assembled a group of veteran world-class musicians to create a dynamic rich with new melodic, harmonic and improvisational possibilities on Downbeat. Co-produced by Lao and guitarist Jeff Kollman, the eclectic set, includes the fiery Latin-flavored hit “World In Rhythm,” which spent months on the jazz radio charts, and was co-written with Emmy winner and Grammy nominated guitarist Chieli Minucci, best known as the founder and leader of the seminal world-jazz-fusion group, Special EFX.
Lao Tizer, a 2011 nominee for “Jazz Group of the Year”, has taken their multi-faceted sound around the globe including the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, the Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg, the Dubai Jazz Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival and the Festival International Providencia Jazz in Santiago, Chile, just to name a few.
Joining Lao & Chieli at the Latin Jazz & Art Festival will be Cuban drum phenomenon and Grammy winner Raul Pineda, UK born bassist extraordinaire Rufus Philpot, and multi-instrumentalist Steve Nieves.
Also included as part of the celebration, the City of Casselberry will feature a special exhibit full of spectacular Latin art at Casselberry’s City Hall and the Fire House Sculpture Studio (adjacent to City Hall).
