Maple Leafs and Solar Bears Extend Affiliation Agreement

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that they will continue their affiliation with the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) and Toronto Marlies (AHL) as a single affiliate for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

“The Leafs are extremely pleased to renew our affiliation with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL,” said Toronto Maple Leafs Senior Vice President and General Manager David Nonis. “As an organization, we are confident that our future prospects will continue to develop professionally under the tutelage of Solar Bears coach Vince Williams.”

Last season eight Toronto prospects appeared in games with the Solar Bears. Those players include Cameron Abney, Mike Duco, Wade MacLeod, Brad Ross, Dylan Yeo, Zachary Yuen, and goaltenders Christopher Gibson and Garret Sparks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the oldest and most-storied NHL franchises, and are one of the “Original Six” teams to play in the NHL. They will celebrate Toronto Marliestheir 100th anniversary in the NHL in the near future (established in 1917) and have captured the Stanley Cup an impressive 13 times, second most to only the Montreal Canadiens. Toronto boasts 39 players who have been inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame, including Darryl Sittler, Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, and Mats Sundin.
