The Orlando Magic Celebrate Women’s History Month at Tuesday’s Game


  • Magic and its players take part in NBA’s LeanIn Campaign-
  • Magic’s Latria Leak recipient of Women of Distinction Award by Valencia College Bridges to Success Program

Orlando, Fla. (March 29, 2016) — The Orlando Magic close out Women’s History Month with a special celebration on Tuesday, March 29 at the Magic’s matchup with the Brooklyn Nets, tip off set for 7:00 p.m.

NBA All-Star Portraits 2016

Before the game the Magic and Magic CEO Alex Martins will host a reception for 80 women community leaders. Former Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and Orlando Miracle Player Nykesha Sales will be a special guest at the reception. In addition, throughout the month of March the team has paid tribute to local military women and first responders as the Hometown Heroes of each March Magic game.

 

The Magic and its players are also participating in LeanIn.Org’s #LeanInTogether public awareness campaign in partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), WNBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The campaign emphasizes how men can support the women in their lives and the benefits to everyone—starting with men themselves—when they do. Several images featuring Magic players (provided in the link at the bottom) to show their support for the campaign’s message and the women in their lives will be sent out this week through the Magic’s social media channels.

 

In addition, the Magic were recently represented at Valencia College’s Women of

Distinction Awards luncheon when the team’s Assistant Director of Community Relations, Latria Leak, was honored with the Women of Distinction Award by Valencia College Bridges to Success Program. This recognition was awarded to Leak for her many accomplishments, contributions to the community and for being a trailblazer in the field of sports management. Leak oversees all of the Magic’s community programs and charitable work.
